The Henrietta: Chasing the Wind

The Henrietta, built in 1875, was the largest wooden ship ever built in South Carolina.  Unfortunately she ended up shipwrecked off of the shores of Japan near Kyoto after only 20 years of service. My patron, Neil Cadieu, was a descendant of the family that built the Henrietta and others like her.

Author Tanya Binford, in addition to owning several of Tony's prints, has commissioned Tony to do two paintings for her. The first served as the cover art for her critically acclaimed book, "Crossing the Wake"

The second was commissioned from a photo that Tanya took at one of her stops in a marina in Fairhope, Alabama during her journey of The Great Loop in 2014.

The single largest collectors of Tony's work, Mike and Anita Gillette commissioned Tony to paint this solitary boat at the Yaught Basin in Southport. The weekend that Tony had scheduled to visit Southport to photograph this boat Hurricane Matthew swept up the East Coast and Tony's visit was delayed. Luckily the boat survived the thrashing and the knowledge of that event made the stillness of this painting that much more striking.
